Every day, hundreds of new Internet of Things (IoT) devices are connected to the Internet. These devices are specifically designed to collect and send data to other things, and often find their way into places they aren’t supposed to be. As with many RF emitting IoT devices, unauthorized portable electronic devices (PEDs) pose pervasive and ever-changing risks to sensitive areas. But the RF signals that would carry a Secure Compartmented Information Facility’s (SCIF) secrets away are also what lets us know there’s a problem.

The Department of Defense has directed (DoD Instruction 8420.01) that unclassified and classified DoD wired and wireless LANs must have a wireless intrusion detection system (WIDS) capability that can be used to monitor for policy violations and stop suspicious activity. In this webinar we will go beyond WLAN-focused WIDS and describe how users can detect and locate threats from the other communications technologies commonly used by modern PEDs and IoT devices.
